MADISON, N.J. - The Rangers set a school record and tied a Landmark Conference record with 13 blocked shots and used a fast start to beat Moravian College 82-68 in a Landmark Conference (LC) men's basketball game Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.

With the victory, Drew (16-4, 7-2 LC) is now tied with the University of Scranton for first place in the conference standings. The Rangers, who swept the season series over Moravian, have also tied the 1979-80 team for the best record in program history through 20 games.

The Rangers entered the night ranked seventh in Division III in blocked shots (5.5 bpg), with junior forward Malachi Walker, Jr. leading the way as the third-leading shot blocker in the nation (3.55 bpg). Drew would receive at least one block from five different players while breaking the previous record of 11 rejections set on Feb. 15, 2015 versus Elizabethtown. 

Walker led the block party with seven swats, including three on one possession early in the second half. He also scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Senior guards Riley Collins led a balanced scoring effort for the Rangers with 21 points and seven assists. Senior guard Michael Boice added 13 points while shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and sophomore guard David Gervase netted 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting from distance. 

Freshman forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. posted a strong all-around showing with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks while sophomore guard Drew Gallagher chipped in with eight points off the bench.

Moravian (10-10, 5-4 LC) received 27 points and nine rebounds from Matt O'Connor while Greg Eck added 20 points. The Greyhounds drained 15 3-pointers, with O'Connor going 7-for-14 from long range.

The Rangers led from start to finish after a lightning-fast 15-0 run over the game's opening 2:34. Walker blocked Moravian's first two shots before Gervase capped the run with a 3-pointer, prompting a Greyhound timeout.

Moravian answered with a 16-5 run to cut the gap to four. But the Rangers responded with a 10-0 run, sparked by a four-point play from Gervase, to go up 30-16 with 9:11 left in the opening period. However, the Greyhounds ended the half on a 11-5 spurt to pull to within 46-38 at the break.

The visitors continued to claw back at the start of the second half and drew to within three (48-45) with 17:08 left. But that's when the Rangers responded with an 8-0 run, capped by a dunk from Walker, to push their lead back into double digits. Drew used a 10-2 run to push its advantage to 17 (66-49) after five straight points from McBurnie and the Greyhounds were unable to get closer than 11 the rest of the way.

The Rangers return to Baldwin Gym on Saturday, when they host Goucher at 2 p.m. in another Landmark Conference match-up.
