HILTON HEAD ISLAND, N.Y. - The Drew University men's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip with a pair of wins on Sunday.
The Rangers (8-0), who remained undefeated on the season, opened with a 5-4 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) before topping St. John Fisher 8-1.
Versus Bridgewater, the Rangers opened with a 2-1 lead after capturing second and third doubles. Sophomore
Billy MacDonald and senior
Karel Raska won 8-6 at No. 2 while freshman
John Dickey and senior
Bryce Weizer captured an 8-3 decision at No. 3.
Drew went on to clinch the match with three singles victories, as they captured the bottom three flights. Raska prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 while sophomore
Jeremy Gottlieb was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5. Weizer earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Against St. John Fisher, the Rangers started by sweeping the doubles competition. Senior and junior
Bryce Kennedy earned a hard-fought 8-7 (9-7) win at No. 1 while Raska and MacDonald won 8-3 at No. 2. Dickey and Weizer notched an 8-5 triumph at No. 3.
Drew went on to post victories at Nos. 2-6 singles. Kennedy rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 win at No. 2 while freshman
Leo Ambrogio won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. Capturing additional wins were Gottlieb at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3), Weizer at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2) and senior
Lloyd Goldstein at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1).
The Rangers continue their trip on Tuesday, when they take on Lebanon Valley.
