MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team won its 11th and 12th-straight matches to start the season, downing Lehman College and Rowan College of South Jersey on Wednesday at the Drew Tennis Complex.
The Rangers opened the day with a 7-2 win over Lehman before earning a 6-0 win over Rowan in a match that was shortened due to rain.
Both Lehman and RCSJ were competing in their season opener.
Against Lehman, Drew led 2-1 after winning two of three doubles matches. Senior
Geoffrey Diehl and freshman
Van Holson won 8-0 at No. 2 while junior
Bryce Kennedy and senior
Bryce Weizer prevailed 8-1 at No. 3.
The Rangers went on to capture five singles wins, including senior
Karel Raska at No. 1 (6-0, 6-2). Also winning were sophomore
Billy MacDonald at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), Weizer at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1), senior
Lloyd Goldstein at No. 5 (6-2, 6-0), and freshman
Ryan Money at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0). Weizer's victory pushed his singles winning streak to 22.
In the nightcap, Drew swept its three doubles matches versus RCSJ, picking up wins from freshmen
Avi Perera and
Lorenzo Fuga at No. 1 (8-7 [7-5]), Diehl and Kennedy at No. 2 (8-1), and MacDonald and Raska at No. 3 (8-1).
The Rangers closed the night by winning all three singles flights that were completed, getting victories from sophomore
Jeremy Gottlieb at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), freshman
Leo Ambrogio at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0), and freshman
John Dickey at No. 6 (6-2, 6-1).
Drew continues its season on Saturday, March 21, when it visits Ursinus College in a non-conference match.
