MADISON, N.J. - Freshman
Janelle Arch and senior
April Serratelli scored one second-half goal apiece and the Drew University field hockey team earned a 2-0 victory over Cedar Crest College in a non-conference match-up in Ranger Stadium Tuesday evening.
Freshman
Tyler Olivio assisted on both goals while sophomore
Olyvia Jackson made two saves to post her first collegiate shutout.
It was a defensive battle in the early going, as the Rangers took the only shot in the first quarter. Each side attempted three shots in the second half, but it remained a scoreless game at the intermission.
Drew finally broke through with 10:34 left in the third quarter. Shortly after a restart, Olivio eluded several defenders to find some open space in the right corner. She delivered a perfect cross to Arch, who quickly dribbled into the box and fired a shot through the five-hole for her seventh goal of the season, giving the Rangers all the offense they would need.
Less than two minutes into the final quarter, another Olivio pass led to a big insurance goal. Following another restart, she took a pass from sophomore
Eniya Garner at midfield and weaved her way through the defense again. This time, she dribbled inside the box and pushed a pass to Serratelli on the left post. The senior flipped the ball into the cage for her second goal of the year.
The Rangers dug in defensively and did not allow a shot on goal during the second half.
Drew returns to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, when it visits Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m.
