BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Drew University men's soccer team continued its late-season surge with a 3-0 Landmark Conference (LC) victory at Moravian University in its regular-season finale Saturday evening.
The Rangers (8-7-1, 5-1-1 LC), who won their fourth match in a row, finished tied for first in the Landmark Conference standings with Catholic University. However, due to Catholic's head-to-head victory over Drew earlier in the season, the Cardinals were awarded the No. 1 seed. The Rangers are the No. 2 seed and will host third-seeded Elizabethtown College in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
After the two sides played to a scoreless first half, the Rangers broke through in the 47th minute, when sophomore
Christian Tyson scored his fourth goal of the season. Senior
Dan Bacon assisted on the goal, which proved to be all of the offense Drew would need.
Senior
Brandon Jimenez doubled the Rangers' lead when he scored off an assist from junior
Modesto Nogueira in the 66th minute. Bacon set the final score when he headed in a corner kick from
Thomas Zurkowski.
Between the pipes, senior
Calum Erlenborn made a career-high six saves to earn his second shutout in his last three matches.
The Rangers finished with advantages in shots (12-10) and corners (5-3).
