Rangers Knock Off Neumann to Reach Rose City Final

MADISON, N.J. — Junior guard Joey Meyers missed a triple-double by two assists and senior guard Sekya Campbell scored 15 points in 12 minutes off the bench, leading the Drew University women's basketball team to a 67-50 victory over Neumann University in the first round of the Larry Horner C'40 Rose City Classic Friday evening in Baldwin Gym.

With the win, the Rangers (2-0) advance to Saturday's championship game to face Misericordia University at 3 p.m.

Meyers recorded 14 points, 12 rebounds, and a career-high eight assists to go with five steals for Drew, which held the Knights (1-1) to 27.7% shooting.

Campbell entered the game in the second half and went on to shoot a sizzling 7-for-8 from the field.

Senior guard Brooke Timinski chipped in with nine points for the Rangers while senior center Erin Frederick posted eight points, five rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Gwen Alberici also contributed to Drew's defensive attack with four steals.

Drew never trailed after scoring the game's first four points and opening the game on a 10-2 run, holding Neumann to just a bucket over the first six minutes. The Rangers led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter, then closed the first half on a 9-0 run to open up a 34-17 lead at the break.

The hosts kept the Knights at arm's length in the second half and led by 12 (44-32) at the end of the third quarter. After Neumann pulled to within single digits (46-37) with 7:39 left, Drew put the game away with a 14-3 run.

Drew and Misericordia will be meeting for the second time in three years, as the Rangers downed the Cougars in the first round of the 2020 ECAC Championships. Drew is also looking to defend its Rose City title after winning it the last time it was held in 2019.
