EWING, N.J. - Senior guard
Lybrant Robinson scored a team-high 17 points, but the Drew University men's basketball team lost by a score of 79-62 to The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in the TCNJ Tournament Championship game on Saturday.
Senior guard
David Gervase added 15 points for the Rangers (1-2) while sophomore guard
Malcolm Newman netted 10 points. Junior forward
Howard McBurnie, Jr. posted eight points and six rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team after a big performance of 21 points, 13 rebounds, six steals, and four blocks in the team's 73-68 first-round win over York (Pa.).
Drew never led after the Lions scored the game's first five points. TCNJ's lead reached double figures midway through the half, but the Rangers scored the final four points of the period on a lay-up by Gervase and a fastbreak bucket from junior
Michael Kane to make it a 34-27 game at the intermission.
The Rangers pulled to within five on a lay-in from Robinson early in the second half. But the Lions used a 12-3 run midway through the stanza to open up an 18-point lead with 8:52 left and Drew was unable to get closer than 13 the rest of the way.
The Blue and Green continue their season on Nov. 19-20 when they host the Larry Horner C'40 Rose City Classic, starting with a first-round game versus Saint Elizabeth University on Friday at 6 p.m.
