The Rangers led by as much as eight in the opening half before the hosts came back to make it a one-point game (29-28) with 2:31 left. McBurnie knocked down a pair of 3s in the closing minutes of the half and Drew led 35-32 at the break.
The Raiders scored the first bucket of the second half to nudge within one again, but Drew answered with a 3-pointer from Gervase and a jumper from Newman to go up by six and would lead by at least four the rest of the way.
Drew pushed its lead into double digits (48-38) when Gervase drilled a triple in transition with 13:54 remaining. The Rangers led by seven with 10:08 to go before the two sides hit an offensive lull, with neither side scoring over the next four minutes. McBurnie ended the drought with a thunderous dunk off a Gervase steal in the backcourt with 6:06 to go.
McBurnie threw down another jam, this time off a steal from senior guard
Drew Gallagher, to make it 58-49 with 3:30 showing. Rutgers-Newark cut it to five (58-53) with 1:07 left, but Newman hit four straight free throws to push the lead back up to nine before the Rangers stopped the Raiders on four of their last five possessions.
