Women's Hoops Rolls Past Juniata

MADISON, N.J. - Four Rangers scored in double figures and the Drew University women's basketball team used some intense defensive pressure to earn an 80-57 Landmark Conference (LC) victory over Juniata College Friday evening in Baldwin Gym.

Sophomore guard Joey Meyers posted her second double-double of the season for Drew (2-1, 2-1 LC), notching 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with five steals, four assists, and a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore guard Katrina Wojtowicz also scored 16 points - a career-high - on 4-of-6 3-point shooting.

Senior guard Julia Ramos tied her career-high with 10 assists while junior guard Sekya Campbell contributed 14 points and four steals. Senior forward Erin Frederick notched 11 points and four assists.

The Rangers used a furious full-court press to force the Eagles (0-5, 0-5 LC) into 33 turnovers, which led to 46 Drew points.

Gracie Stauffer led Juniata with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots.

With the Ranger coaching staff out for the second game in a row due to COVID-19 protocols, new Assistant Coach Bobby Timinski guided Drew to victory.

Drew led for all but 3:55. Neither side led by more than three in a tight first quarter, but the Rangers scored the last five points to assume a 16-14 lead.

The Eagles went back in front early in the second quarter, but Drew answered with an 11-0 run to push its lead to 29-22 with 4:11 on the clock. Wojtwoicz capped the surge with back-to-back triples.

A 7-0 spurt extended the Rangers' lead to 12 and they carried a 36-25 lead into halftime.

Drew continued to pull away in the second half. The hosts outscored Juniata 21-15 in the third quarter, when they led by at least 11 throughout the period. The Rangers put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 23-17.

The two sides finish off their season series on Sunday, when they face in Huntingdon, Pa. starting at 4 p.m.
