ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Drew University baseball team lost both ends of a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College on Saturday.
The Rangers were edged 3-2 in the first game before the Blue Jays claimed a 16-4 victory in the nightcap.
Senior
Tim Jinks worked a six-inning complete game in the opener, allowing just five hits and three runs while striking out a pair.
Drew struck first, scoring twice in the second on a pair of walks, a hit batsman, and a fielder's choice. E-town scored once in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1, then went in front in the sixth on a two-run homer from JT Thompson that proved to be the difference.
The Rangers threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases after junior
Ryan Nagle singled, sophomore
Matthew Kroll was hit by a pitch, and sophomore
Jake Welsh reached on an infield single. But reliever Kelly Holdren struck out a batter to end the game.
The Blue Jays scored all 16 of their runs over the opening three innings of the second game. Drew broke up the shutout with two runs in the fourth before plating two more in the sixth.
Sophomore
Gio DeGiglio enjoyed a strong outing in relief, tossing 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball, yielding just two hits while striking out a pair.
The Rangers had their home doubleheader versus Elizabethtown scheduled for Sunday postponed due to impending rain. Drew continues its schedule next Saturday, when it hosts the University of Scranton in another Landmark doubleheader starting at 12:30 p.m.
