Scranton Takes Two from Baseball

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University baseball team lost both ends of a Landmark Conference (LC) doubleheader to the University of Scranton on Saturday, as the Royals won the opener 10-2 before capturing a 6-0 decision in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Royals (5-5, 5-5 LC) took control early with a six-run, three-hit second inning. In the meantime, Scranton starter Hunter Ralston retired the first nine batters before senior Cole Bosch led off the fourth with a single. He would score on sophomore Matthew Kroll's double to make it 6-1.

The Royals answered with a single run in the sixth before Drew scored again in the bottom of the inning. Bosch singled, stole second, and scored on a single from sophomore Jake Welsh. However, Scranton would tack on three in the seventh to set the final score.

Senior Tim Jinks started on the mound for the Rangers and worked 3 2/3 innings, striking out four. Freshman Jake Schoffelen pitched two innings before sophomore Joseph Caggiano worked one scoreless frame.

In the second game, Daniel Johnson tossed a one-hit shutout for Scranton. He allowed just two baserunners for the game and retired the first 10 batters before junior Ryan Nagle's bloop single with one out in the fourth. Senior Tom Burr was hit with a pitch in the fifth, but that's when Johnson retired his final eight batters. He finished with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Junior Teddy Hoxie started for the Rangers and tossed five innings, finishing with three strikeouts. Sophomore Dylan Donohue worked two scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits while fanning three.

Drew and Scranton conclude their series on Monday with a doubleheader at Scranton starting at 12:30 p.m.
