Balanced Scoring Vaults Rangers Over Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Nine different Rangers scored at least one goal and the Drew University women's lacrosse team picked up a 13-9 Landmark Conference (LC) victory at Moravian College on Wednesday.

The Rangers (2-2, 2-2 LC) led from start to finish after jumping to a 5-2 lead to start the game. However, the Greyhounds (2-2, 2-2 LC) kept it close the entire way and never trailed by more than four.

Senior Lauren Cassella led Drew with three goals while classmate Charly Nolting added two goals and one assist. Junior Kendall Hartt also scored a pair of goals while senior Meliha Emini notched one goal and two helpers. Six other Rangers found the net once on the day.

Senior Katiana Michalski made five saves to earn the win in goal for Drew, which blanked Moravian over the last 11 minutes.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard first when Cassella scored two and a half minutes into the contest. Junior Jenna Draney and Nolting also converted before Cassella and junior Hailey Simmons struck to give Drew its early 5-2 advantage with 15:44 on the clock.

Nolting and senior Allie DiDario scored one goal apiece to make it a 7-4 game with 5:52 showing. Moravian scored the final tally of the half with 2:02 left to pull to within 7-5 at the intermission.

The Greyhounds pulled to within a goal when they scored with 25:41 remaining. But the Rangers quickly answered when Hartt cashed in 40 seconds later. Emini tallied with 23:39 to go, making it 9-6.

Hartt and Cassella scored again later in the half as the Rangers extended their lead to 11-7 with 18:28 left. Moravian cut it to 11-9 with 11:36 to go, but that's when Drew dug in defensively, limiting the 'Hounds to just one shot the rest of the way.

Freshmen Ella Champigny and Lizzy Barrett salted the victory, scoring one goal apiece late in the game.

The Rangers outshot Moravian 37-21 and were a perfect 21-for-21 on clears.

Drew returns home on Saturday, when it hosts Juniata College at 3 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
