BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Drew University field hockey team continued its spring season on Friday at Moravian College, where the Greyhounds earned a 3-0 victory in an unofficial scrimmage.
Playing for the third time in six days, the Rangers performed well defensively and shut out Moravian in the second quarter. Junior defender
Carly Schiller had an outstanding game for Drew with three defensive saves. In addition, freshman goalie
Olyvia Jackson made a save on a penalty stroke.
It was a scoreless game until the Greyhounds struck late in the first quarter. It remained a one-goal affair until the hosts scored again late in the third period before setting the final score midway through the final stanza.
Once again, a pair of freshman goalies split the time in goal.
Emily Sheridan started and played the first and third quarters while Jackson played the second and fourth periods.
After their official fall seasons were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in February the Landmark Conference Presidents' Council approved a plan for fall sports teams to conduct an expanded non-traditional season of up to four contests against fellow Landmark institutions.
The Landmark Conference determined that all of the contests are considered scrimmages and will not count as official NCAA or Landmark Conference games. In addition, Landmark standings will not be kept and official statistics will not be recorded.
The Rangers return to action on April 11, when they visit Catholic University at 2:30 p.m.
