MADISON, N.J. - Freshman
Matthew Agudelo buried the game-winning goal directly on a corner kick and the Drew University men's soccer rallied for a 2-1 victory over Moravian College in its final match of the spring on Friday at a frigid Ranger Stadium.
Drew, which overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit, won its final two matches to finish 2-1 during the expanded non-traditional season
Agudelo had a hand in both goals, starting with the game-tying tally in the 72nd minute. He took a cross from sophomore
Chris Scariano and lofted a shot over the keeper that bounced off the crossbar. Sophomore
Mike Dilger was there to head the ball over the goalie, making it a 1-1 match.
Four minutes later, the Rangers were awarded back-to-back corner kicks. On Agudelo's second attempt, the left-footer's inswinger hooked over the keeper and into the back of the net untouched, setting off a Ranger celebration on the field.
Moravian outshot the Rangers in the first half and scored the lone goal of the period, when Mike D'Angelo picked off a goal kick and scored from the top of the box. However, Drew held possession for the majority of the second half.
Once again, freshman
David Hoyt and junior
Alex Idrovo split the time in net for Drew, with Hoyt starting and Idrovo playing the second half.
Ranger seniors
Tony Oliveira and
Ryan Perlee were honored in a brief ceremony before the start of the match.
After their official fall seasons were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in February the Landmark Conference Presidents' Council approved a plan for fall sports teams to conduct an expanded non-traditional season of up to four contests against fellow Landmark institutions.
The Landmark Conference determined that all of the contests are considered scrimmages and will not count as official NCAA or Landmark Conference games. In addition, Landmark standings will not be kept and official statistics will not be recorded.
