MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team cruised to its sixth-straight win to open the season, topping Susquehanna University 7-2 in a Landmark Conference (LC) match on Sunday at Saint Elizabethtown University.
The Rangers (6-0, 6-0 LC) received two victories apiece from graduate student
Geoffrey Diehl, junior
Jeremy Gottlieb, and junior
Bret Schuler.
Drew has now won 21 straight matches dating back to April 15, 2019.
The Rangers opened up a 2-1 lead after capturing two of the three doubles matches. Diehl and Schuler won 8-0 at the second flight, improving to 6-0 on the year, while junior
Dan Blumenthal and Gottlieb prevailed 8-3 at the third slot.
Drew went on to claim five of six singles matches, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Diehl at No. 1, and swept the third through sixth flights. Sophomore
John Dickey added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 while Gottlieb pulled out a tight three-set triumph (6-4, 4-6, 7-5) at No. 4 to improve to 6-0. Freshman
Jack Polvere contributed a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5, moving to 5-0 on the year, while Schuler picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
The Rangers will open up Landmark Conference Championship play with a quarterfinal match on Saturday, with the opponent, site, and time to be determined.Â
