MADISON, N.J. - Senior
Sophie Sirota reached the 100-hit plateau as the Drew University softball team was swept by undefeated and ninth-ranked Moravian College in Landmark Conference action on Thursday at the Drew Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds (22-0, 18-0 LC) won the opener 8-0 before capturing the nightcap 8-1.
The twinbill marked the final regular season games of the year for the Rangers (7-15, 7-15 LC), who will compete in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championships versus an opponent and at a site to be determined.Â
Sirota reached her milestone in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI-single up the middle.Â
In the opener, Moravian scored four times over the opener three innings versus sophomore starter
Brianna Seals. Classmate
Bailey Comeau, who pitched all 12 innings in Wednesday's doubleheader at Moravian, came on in the fourth inning and blanked the Greyhounds over the next three innings, when she allowed only a pair of singles. But Moravian padded its lead with a four-run, five-hit seventh.
The Rangers were held to a pair of hits by Moravian starter Madison Hummel (10-0) but put up a threat in the third inning. Freshman
Madi Baldwin led off with a walk before junior
Madi Precht singled and junior
Ciara Lyons walked to load the bases. However, Hummel ended the inning with a groundout and faced the minimum 12 batters over the final four innings.Â
In the second game, Moravian built a 4-0 lead through four innings, then pushed across four more in the sixth to go up 8-0. But the Rangers put up a rally in the sixth, sparked by a one-out double from Precht. Lyons followed up with a single before Sirota scored Precht with her 100th hit. Junior
Paxtan Perry added a single before Moravian starter Alexandria Scheeler ended the inning with a groundout.
The Rangers received back-to-back singles from sophomores
Julia VanLiew and
Gianna Palmieri to start the seventh before Scheeler retired the final three batters.
Palmieri finished the game 2-for-3 to lead Drew at the plate. Junior
Emilee Marshall started in the circle for the Rangers and worked her first complete game of the year.Â
