MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team won its second-straight match to start the season with a 6-3 Landmark Conference (LC) victory over the University of Scranton on Wednesday.
The Rangers (2-0, 2-0 LC) won two of three doubles matches before capturing four of singles singles matches.
Freshman
Jack Polvere was a double-winner for the Rangers, prevailing at both No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
The match was played at Saint Elizabeth University due to court conditions at the Drew Tennis Complex.
In doubles action, graduate student
Geoffrey Diehl and junior
Bret Schuler teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the second flight before Polvere and junior
Dan Blumenthal captured an 8-2 win at the No.3 slot.
In singles, the Rangers swept the Nos. 3-6 spots in the lineup, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory from freshman
Santo Carroccia at No. 3 for his first collegiate win. Junior
Jeremy Gottlieb clinched the match with his 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4 while senior
Bryce Kennedy notched a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 5. Polvere claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 for his first collegiate win.
Drew returns to action on Saturday, when it travels to Juniata College for a Landmark Conference match-up starting at 1 p.m.
