Men's Tennis Rolls Into Landmark Conference Semifinals

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team rolled to a 5-0 victory over Elizabethtown College in the quarterfinals of the Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday at Saint Elizabeth University.

The top-seeded Rangers (8-0) remained undefeated and stretched their winning streak to 23 matches. They will now take on fourth-seeded Susquehanna University, which was a 5-1 winner over No. 5 Catholic University, in the semifinals on Wednesday in the Simon Forum starting at 4 p.m.

Drew opened the match with a 3-0 lead after sweeping through doubles play. Junior Dan Blumenthal and sophomore John Dickey won 8-0 at No. 1, as did graduate student Geoffrey Diehl and junior Bret Schuler, who improved to 8-0 on the season at No. 2. Junior Jeremy Gottlieb and freshman Jack Polvere captured an 8-1 decision at No. 3.

The first two singles winners were Blumenthal, who prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, and freshman Santo Carroccia, who posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to secure the match for the Rangers.

The Rangers will be making their first appearance in the Landmark Conference semifinals since 2013, when it defeated Catholic 5-2 en route to winning its 13th straight conference title.
