MADISON, N.J. - Junior
Alexa Thomas scored a pair of goals, including the go-ahead tally with 8:46 remaining, and the Drew University field hockey team topped King's College 3-2 in a non-conference match-up Saturday afternoon at a sunny Ranger Stadium.
Thomas also scored twice in the team's 3-1 win over Delaware Valley this past Wednesday and has now netted a season-high six goals in six games.
The Monarchs (2-3) took an early 1-0 lead when they scored with 2:36 left in the first quarter. But the Rangers (2-4) rallied to go in front with two goals midway through the second quarter. Thomas tied it up with 8:13 on the clock when she took a cross from freshman
Tyler Olivio and one-timed a shot inside the right post from the top of the box.
Just over two minutes later, freshman
Janelle Arch struck to put Drew up 2-1. Following a corner, junior
Trisha Dominick sent in a pass from the right elbow, and Arch slipped it around the goalie for her first collegiate goal. The Rangers carried their 2-1 lead into halftime.
King's pulled even with five minutes into the second half, and neither side scored over the remainder of the third quarter. But the Rangers went back in front midway through the final period. Olivio started the big play, taking the ball away from a defender following a Drew corner. She quickly centered a pass to senior
April Serratelli, who then flipped a pass to Thomas on the left side. Thomas ripped a shot just past the keeper and inside the left post for her second straight game-winning goal.
Sophomore
Olyvia Jackson finished with five saves to earn her second consecutive goalie victory for Drew.
The Rangers return home on Wednesday, when they host Stevens at 7:30 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
