MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's soccer team renewed its cross-town rivalry with FDU-Florham but came up on the short end of a 2-0 decision in the Battle of Madison Avenue on Tuesday evening.
The Devils (8-3) scored early in each half, jumping to a 1-0 lead in the second minute before tacking on an insurance goal in the 58th minute.
Trailing 2-0 midway through the second half, the Rangers (5-3-1) nearly cut the lead in half on a pair of shots three seconds apart. But junior
Gabby Gilgorri had her shot hit the post before freshman
Alexa Krause hit the crossbar, and FDU held Drew to one shot the rest of the way.
Krause took two of the Rangers' six shots for the game, while sophomores
Jessie Brannick and
Rebecca Racine each placed one shot on goal.
Freshman
Amina Cirkiel played most of the game in goal for Drew and finished with four saves over 66 minutes of action. Junior
Anthi Panayides played the opening 12 minutes while sophomore
Brenna DeVoe was in net for the last 12 minutes and made a pair of saves.
The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Susquehanna at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference tilt.
