MADISON, N.J. - The Rangers swept the doubles competition, then went 4-2 in singles to pick up a 7-2 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the team's first dual match of the season on Wednesday in the Simon Forum.
Juniors
Avi Perera and
Leo Ambrogio led Drew (1-0) with two victories apiece. Perera teamed up with senior
Bret Schuler for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles before capturing a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Ambrogio and senior
Dan Blumenthal won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, and Ambrogio also prevailed 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Also earning a doubles victory were seniorÂ
Billy MacDonald and sophomore
Jack Polvere, who won 8-1 at the third flight.
In singles action, sophomore
Santo Carroccia and senior
Ben Dunlap were also winners. Carroccia earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot while Dunlap won in three sets, rallying for a 2-6, 7-6 (2), 10-2 triumph at No. 6.
The Rangers close out their fall schedule on Thursday, Oct. 7 with a dual match at Ramapo starting at 4 p.m.
