Big Third Quarter Sends Rangers Over Eagles

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's basketball team outscored Juniata College 25-4 in the third quarter as the Rangers earned a 77-42 Landmark Conference (LC) victory Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

Junior guard Joey Meyers turned in a strong all-around game for the Rangers (12-2, 3-2 LC) with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. She shot 7-for-10 from the field while posting her ninth double-double of the season.

Senior center Erin Frederick contributed 14 points for Drew while junior guard Kyra Mann scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Junior guard Gwen Alberici tied a career-high with five steals while classmate Katrina Wojtowicz blocked three shots.

Averie Hess scored 13 points for the Eagles (5-11 1-5 LC).

The Rangers never trailed after outscoring Juniata 12-4 to start the game. Frederick scored the first six points for Drew, which led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles cut the deficit to seven with 2:44 left in the third quarter, but the Rangers answered with the next six points and led 36-25 at the half.

Drew opened its decisive third quarter with a 17-0 run in which six different players scored. The Rangers' lead ballooned to 30 with 2:20 left in the quarter, and they led 61-29 at the end of the period. Juniata never got any closer in the final stanza, when Drew led by as much as 38.

The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit the University of Scranton at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference match-up.
