HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team shot 50.9% from the field and defeated Juniata College 65-44 in its Landmark Conference opener Saturday afternoon.
Senior guard
Joey Meyers posted 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists to lead the Rangers (7-1, 1-0 LC), who won their third game in a row and their eighth straight versus Juniata.
Freshman guard
Madelyn Morgan contributed 10 points and six rebounds while shooting 6-for-6 at the foul line while
junior forward
Jamie Struble added 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting for Drew, which held the Eagles (3-5, 0-1 LC) to 30.4% shooting and forced Juniata into 25 turnovers.
All 15 Rangers entered the game and 11 scored a point.
Bri Bodtorf paced the Eagles with 13 points.
The Rangers never trailed after racing out to a 9-0 lead. They went on to outscore Juniata 17-5 in the first quarter and 14-10 in the second stanza to assume a 31-15 lead at the intermission.
Drew continued to pull away in the third quarter, when it outscored the Eagles 19-8 while shooting 60.0% (9-for-15) from the field. The Rangers led by as much as 32 (59-27) with 7:18 left before the hosts ended the game on a 17-6 run.
Drew continues its season on Tuesday, when it hosts Brooklyn College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
