Women’s Basketball Tops Brooklyn, Wins Fourth Straight

MADISON, N.J. – Senior guard Joey Meyers scored a game-high 21 points and added nine rebounds and four assists as the Drew University women's basketball team cruised to a 74-53 non-conference victory over Brooklyn College Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
 
Junior forward Jamie Struble added 13 points for the Rangers (8-1), who pushed their winning streak to four while taking on the Bulldogs for the first time in team history. Freshman guard Madelyn Morgan contributed 11 points and nine rebounds, junior center Gracie Hezel scored nine points, and senior guard Gwen Alberici pitched in with seven points and five assists.
 
Ericka James scored 17 points for Brooklyn (3-5) while Gianna Gotti posted eight points, five rebounds, and six steals.
 
The Rangers trailed just once on the evening, when it was 4-2 a minute and a half into the game. But Drew outscored Brooklyn 13-1 over the remaining of the quarter to open up a 15-5 lead at the end of the first period. Meyers scored Drew's first eight points, including the first six of its big run.
 
Drew nudged its lead to 13 with 6:38 remaining in the opening half, only to see the Bulldogs use a 10-3 run to draw to within six. However, the Rangers closed the quarter with a flurry once again, outscoring Brooklyn 13-2 to assume a 37-20 lead at the half. Six different players contributed points during the outburst.
 
The Rangers made the lead stand up in the second half, when it lead by at least 15 the entire way. It was a 50-32 game at the end of the third quarter, and Drew used an 8-2 spurt midway through the fourth quarter to expand a 16-point lead to 22, settling any doubt.
 
The Rangers return to action on Thursday, when they visit Medgar Evers College at 6 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
