BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Drew University women's basketball team cruised to a 96-36 non-conference victory at Medgar Evers College in a non-conference affair Thursday evening.
Fourteen different players scored a point for the Rangers (9-1), who posted the third-highest scoring output and the fifth-highest total in both steals (21) assists (tied, 28) in team history. They also won their fifth game in a row and have tied the second-best start through 10 games in team history.
Senior guard
Joey Meyers led the Rangers with 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals while freshman guard
Madelyn Morgan tallied 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go with four steals. Senior guard
Kyra Mann scored 11 points, and freshman guard
Ryane Wood also reached double figures with 10 points. Freshman forward
Beth Dobrich contributed eight rebounds, and sophomore guard
Izzy Lalo dished out seven assists. Freshman forward
Gianna Pica added five steals.
Sheily Quezada scored 20 points for the Cougars (2-6).
The Rangers were hot from the start, outscoring Medgar Evers 32-5 in the first quarter. They extended their advantage to 59-21 at halftime, then outscored the hosts 23-11 in the third period. Drew shot over 60% from the field during each of the first three quarters. The Rangers closed the game with a strong defensive effort, allowing just four points in the final quarter.
Drew wraps up a three-game week on Saturday, when it hosts Raritan Valley Community College at 4 p.m.
