Women's Basketball Falls to Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior center Erin Fredeick posted her third-straight 20-point game, but the Drew University women's basketball team lost by a final of 66-56 at Moravian University in a Landmark Conference (LC) match-up Wednesday evening.

Frederick finished with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds for the Rangers, who are now 15-7 and tied with Moravian for fourth place in the conference standings at 6-7 with one regular-season game remaining.

Junior guard Joey Meyers contributed 13 points and eight rebounds for Drew while senior forward Cecelia Kracht made a season-high five blocked shots.

Sam Osorio paced Moravian (8-16) with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Rangers led for most of the first quarter and nudged their lead to five (17-12) with 47 seconds left in the period. The Rangers led 18-15 at the end of the stanza.

The game was tied at 20-20 with 7:17 left in the opening half before the two sides hit a dry spell, as neither team scored for nearly a five-minute stretch. Osorio broke the drought with a layup at the 2:23 mark, and Moravian would lead 28-23 at the half.

The Rangers whittled the deficit down to one with 3:21 left in the third quarter, but the Greyhounds ended the quarter on a 9-2 run to assume a 47-39 lead heading into the final period.

A pair of free throws from Frederick made it a six-point game (49-43) with 7:43 left, but that's when Moravian put together another 9-2 run to go up 13 with 5:45 to go. The Rangers rallied, however, and pulled to within six (62-56) on a 3-pointer from senior guard Brooke Timinski with 48 seconds left. But the Greyhounds iced their win at the foul line, where they were 4-for-4 in the final 42 seconds.

The Rangers will continue their quest for a Landmark Conference playoff berth when they host Goucher College in their regular-season finale and Senior Day at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
