Rangers Top Goucher on Senior Day, Regular-Season Finale

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in style, racing past Goucher College 94-61 in a Landmark Conference (LC) tilt Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers (17-8, 11-3 LC) led from start to finish and shot an even 50.0% from the field. They close out the regular season on a four-game winning streak leading into the Landmark Conference Championships.

All six seniors who dressed entered the game, with senior guard David Gervase leading the way with 22 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Malachi Walker, Jr. also enjoyed a big game, scoring a career-high 16 points to go with five rebounds and four blocked shots while sophomore guard Malcolm Newman posted 12 points and seven assists.

Junior forward Michael Kane also scored a dozen points while senior guard Miles Lewis notched nine points, five rebounds, and four assists. Junior forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. turned in nine points and 10 rebounds while senior guard Kevin Griffith registered four steals.

Cameron Issacs and Josh Lichti led the Gophers (3-21, 0-14 LC) with 13 points apiece.

The Rangers led by just four midway through the opening half before opening up some breathing room with a 9-2 run. Later in the half, an 11-4 run pushed Drew's lead to 18, and it would carry a 46-30 lead into the locker room.

The Blue and Green settled any doubt in the second half, gradually pulling away while outscoring Goucher 48-31 in the period. Midway through the half, a pair of seniors connected for a highlight-reel play, as Dylan Musial sent a fastbreak pass off the backboard to Walker, who threw down an emphatic dunk.

The Rangers have earned the No. 2 seed in the Landmark Conference Championships and will host third-seeded Catholic University in a semifinal on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It will be the fourth year in a row that Drew has hosted a conference playoff game.
