MADISON, N.J. - Junior
John Dickey and sophomore
Jack Polvere teamed up to win the "B" flight of the Ranger Invitational Doubles Tournament, highlighting the second and final day of the event for the Rangers on Sunday in the Simon Forum.
Dickey and Polvere finished 3-0 on the day, starting with a 6-2 victory over teammates
Sergey Kravchenko and
Brett Philip. They followed up with another 6-2 win over a team from Division I Rider University, then pulled out a tight 7-6 (7-2) win over Come Bulte and Tinashe Whata of Harford Community College for the title. For the weekend, Dickey and Polvere finished 5-2.
Two additional Drew doubles tandems reached the semifinals of the single-elimination tournament on Sunday. In the "A" flight, junior
Avi Perera and senior
Bret Schuler opened the day with a 6-2 victory over teammates
Leo Ambrogio and
Dan Blumenthal before dropping a tough 7-5 decision to a team from Rider in the semis.
Sophomore
Santo Carroccia and senior
Ben Dunlap also recorded a victory, capturing a 6-2 decision over a squad from FDU-Florham in the "B" flight quarterfinals before they lost by a 6-1 count to a team from Harford in the semifinals.
Pablo Salar Carrera and Jaime De Jaraiz Garcia of Rider captured the "A" flight with a 6-4 win over a team from Harford.
The Rangers continue their season March 6-11, when they compete in five matches over six days on their spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C.
