Women's Lax Downs Emerson, Finishes 2-0 on Boston Trip

BOSTON - Sophomore Lizzy Barrett posted six goals and five assists and classmate Ella Champigny netted four goals and three helpers as the Drew University women's lacrosse finished off its spring break trip to Boston with an 18-6 victory at Emerson University on Thursday.

The Rangers, who stayed perfect at 5-0, also registered a 19-7 victory at Regis College on Tuesday.

The Blue and Green broke the game open in the second half, when they outscored the Lions 8-1.

Barrett's 11 points fell just one shy of the school record set by Krysta Cento versus Ramapo in 2014. Her six goals were the most since senior Kendall Hartt also scored six in a win over Lebanon Valley on March 3, 2020, and her five assists were the most since Charly Nolting had five versus Neumann in the 2019 ECAC Championships.

Senior Hailey Simmons contributed three goals for the Rangers while classmate Jenna Draney posted two goals and one assist. Senior Meliha Emini added a pair of goals.

Hartt picked up five draw controls for Drew while junior Anna Horne registered a career-high 15 saves.

Nina Khosla also collected 15 stops for Emerson (3-1).

It was a close game in the first quarter, when neither side led by more than one. Emini scored shorthanded with 3:15 left and it was a 3-3 game heading into the second period. The Rangers opened up some breathing room in the quarter, outscoring the Lions 7-2. Champigny and Barrett scored two goals each during the period.

The Rangers continued to pull away in the third quarter, scoring the first two goals. The Lions stopped the bleeding with 7:47 left in the quarter to make it 12-6, but Drew would close the game on a 6-0 run, which included a pair of power-play goals from Barrett.

Horne made nine of her saves in the second half and shut out the Lions in the fourth quarter, when she turned aside seven shots.

The Rangers continue their season on March 19, when they visit Ursinus College in a non-conference tilt starting at 3 p.m.
