MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's lacrosse team received goals from 11 different players and the Rangers rolled to a 21-6 non-conference victory over DeSales University Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.
Senior
Hailey Simmons posted four goals, three ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers for the Rangers (2-0), who tied the fourth-highest scoring output in team history. Classmate
Kendall Hartt also turned in a big performance with two goals and a career-high 12 draw controls, a mark that ties her for second-most in team history and was two shy of the school record.
Sophomores
Ella Champigny and
Rachael West scored three goals apiece while classmate
Lizzy Barrett tallied two goals and two assists. Senior
Meliha Emini contributed two goals, one assist, and six draw controls.
In goal, junior
Anna Horne collected five saves through the first three quarters for the Rangers before freshman
Arianna Mendez played the final period and made one stop.
Hayley Petrosini scored three goals to lead the Bulldogs (1-2).
The Rangers never trailed after opening the game on a 10-2 run over the opening 26 minutes, when Simmons struck for three of her goals. Drew led 10-3 at the intermission before the Bulldogs scored two of the first three goals of the second half to make it a six-goal game. But that's when the Rangers put their foot on the gas with a 9-0 run that settled any doubt. West scored all three of her goals during the run.
Drew continues its three-game homestand to open the season on Saturday, when it hosts Stockton at noon.
