MADISON, N.J. - Senior
Jenna Draney scored the game-winning goal with 1.2 seconds left and the Drew University women's lacrosse team withstood a big second-half comeback to earn a thrilling 16-15 victory over Stockton University in a non-conference tilt Wednesday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
With the win, the Rangers improved to 3-0 while dropping the Ospreys to 1-2.
After gaining possession with 23 seconds left, the Rangers skillfully executed a clear, driving the length of the field to gain an excellent look at the goal. Junior
Emma Koerner deftly split a pair of defenders deep in Drew territory before dishing it off to senior
Kennedy Youtz, who found classmate
Kendall Hartt near midfield with a perfect outlet pass.
Hartt drove the rest of the way before lofting a cross to sophomore
Emma DiPatri on the left side of the field. DiPatri quickly tracked down the pass on one bounce and found Draney one-on-one with the keeper in front of the cage. Draney one-timed it into the right side of the net before being mobbed by her teammates.
Draney finished the game with a career-high four goals while sophomore
Lizzy Barrett pumped in four goals and three assists. Hartt and senior
Hailey Simmons added two goals each while junior
Anna Horne collected 14 saves.
Jennifer Toal posted four goals and one assist to lead Stockton (1-2).
Drew led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter and 8-7 at halftime. Hartt scored with 10 seconds left in the opening half, kicking off a 5-0 Ranger run that put the hosts up 12-7 with 11:50 remaining in the half. However, that's when the Ospreys answered with the next seven goals to assume a 14-12 lead with 10:58 left in the game.
The Rangers closed the game on a 4-1 run, with Simmons tying the game with 4:58 left. Stockton scored to reclaim the lead with 3:39 to go before senior
Meliha Emini tied it for Drew with 2:53 showing, finishing off a pass from Barrett to set up the wild finish.
