Simmons Scores 100th Point as Rangers Run Past Regis

WESTON, Mass. - Senior Hailey Simmons scored her 100th career point and the Drew University women's lacrosse team used a balanced attack to down Regis College 19-7 on Tuesday during the team's spring break trip to Massachusetts.

Fifteen different players scored a goal for the Rangers, who stayed perfect at 4-0 on the season. Sophomore Lizzy Barrett led the way with three goals and four assists for the Rangers while seniors Jenna Draney and Kendall Hartt scored two goals apiece. Senior Meliha Emini and sophomore Emma DiPatri totaled one goal and two assists each. 

Defensively, junior Anna Horne and freshman Arianna Mendez split the time in goal. Horne started and made two saves, as did Mendez in the second half.

Simmons came into the game with 98 points and reached her milestone with a goal and an assist in the first quarter. She reached the century mark with an assist at the 5:49 mark of the opening period.

In a high-scoring first period, junior Maggie Nealley and Hartt scored in the span of 57 seconds to put the Rangers on top before Regis netted its first goal. Drew then rattled off seven unanswered goals, led by Barrett with two goals and Emma DiPatri with a goal and two assists, to extend its advantage to eight (9-1). The Rangers led 10-2 at the end of the first quarter.

After Drew scored twice in the second period, the Pride connected on back-to-back tallies in the final 1:21 of the first half to close the margin back to eight (12-4) at halftime. In the second half, Drew again put together a scoring run, this time with five straight goals spanning the end of the third period and the majority of the fourth period to solidify the win.

Isabella Beane scored five goals to lead Regis (0-2). 

The Rangers head into Boston on Thursday, when they take on Emerson starting at 11 a.m.
