Softball Splits With Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, P.a - The Drew University softball team and Elizabethtown College won a game apiece during Saturday afternoon's Landmark Conference doubleheader. The Blue Jays came out on top in game one by winning 8-3 before the Rangers got even in game two with a 4-1 victory.

The Rangers, who received a three-hit gem from freshman pitcher Teagan Bradley in the nightcap, improved to 15-5 on the season and 2-2 in Landmark Conference play. The Blue Jays moved to 8-8 and 1-3 in the conference.

Despite a late comeback attempt, Drew couldn't overcome an early 8-1 deficit in game one. The Rangers still produced a couple of highlight-worthy plays, though, including freshman infielder Francesca O'Kleasky's little league home run in the sixth. After drilling a triple to right field, O'Kleasky was able to get up from her slide and reach home plate on a throwing error by the shortstop. The next inning, Bradley had a genuine home run of her own after knocking one off the scoreboard in left-center.

Junior pitcher Bailey Comeau was in the circle for Drew, going five innings and allowing five runs while striking out three.

The Rangers quickly moved on from their early afternoon loss to bounce back with a strong showing in game two.

Bradley shifted over from first base into the starting pitching role for Drew and delivered yet another dominant performance. After allowing one run and three hits in the first inning, Bradley was absolutely perfect for the remainder of the game. She fired six consecutive scoreless innings while retiring the final 19 batters of the game. Bradley struck out two and walked none while improving to 7-1 on the year.

At the plate, O'Kleasky provided Drew with all the offense it needed, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. She drove in the Rangers' first run of the game with a double to center in the fifth, before coming around to score on a single from senior shortstop Ciara Lyons. Two innings later O'Kleasky would round the bases for a second time after doubling down the left field line and later scoring on an RBI groundout from sophomore first baseman Madi Baldwin.

The Rangers will return to the field on Tuesday, when they host William Patterson University in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
