SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Drew University baseball team fell 5-1 against Susquehanna University in the final game of its three-game Landmark Conference (LC) series on Sunday afternoon.
It was a 1-1 game after two innings before the River Hawks (10-15, 5-3 LC) plated four runs from the third through the fifth, setting the final score.
Freshman relief pitcherÂ
Connor Ruscansky kept Susquehanna off the scoreboard the rest of the way with the finest outing of his collegiate career so far, firing a season-high 3 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts.
Freshman first baseman
Matt Myers scored Drew's only run of the day on a perfectly executed double-steal attempt in the top of the second. With two outs and runners at the corners, freshman outfielder
Ryan Jones took off for second and drew the throw as Myers busted down the line and made it home safely to get the Rangers on the board.Â
FreshmanÂ
Johnny Jarvie made his third start of the season for Drew and worked 4 2/3 innings. Ruscansky took over in the fifth and retired 10 of the 13 batters he faced, yielding only a trio of singles.
Kyle Sears would earn the win for Susquehanna after tossing 7 1/3 innings. Tyler Hargus led the River Hawks offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double.
The Rangers return home on Tuesday for a non-conference game against the College of Mount Saint Vincent starting at 3:30 p.m. at Doc Young Field.
