BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Drew University baseball team lost the opening game of its Landmark Conference series at Moravian University on Friday by a final of 16-6.
Freshman
Matt Myers led the Rangers at the plate, finishing 3-for-4.
It was a slugfest in the early going, with Moravian leading 11-6 after three innings of play. After the hosts scored twice in the first, Drew bounced back with three in the second, The Greyhounds pushed ahead 7-3 with a five-run second; however, the Rangers came back to cut the lead to one after a three-run, four-hit third. Shane Benson and Myers each singled home a run while freshman
Ryan Jones laid down a squeeze bunt to bring home an additional run as the Rangers trailed just 7-6.
Moravian took the lead for good with a four-run third, the start of a 10-1 Drew run to end the game.
Senior
Tim Jinks started and pitched two innings for the Rangers while sophomore
Owen Jaquette had the team's longest outings, tossing three frames. Sophomore
Brian Lavelle surrendered just one run over two innings while junior
Jake Welsh threw a scoreless eighth.
The two teams face off in their series-ending doubleheader back at Moravian on Saturday at noon.
