MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's lacrosse team couldn't overcome an early 12-2 deficit and ultimately fell 25-12 to Elizabethtown College in Saturday afternoon's Landmark Conference match.
The Rangers drop to 6-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Landmark Conference, while the Blue Jays improve to 6-5 and remain undefeated in the the conference at 2-0.
After allowing Etown to score the first goal of the game, the Rangers tied things up at 12:42 in the first period with one of the flashiest goals of the year from freshman
Brian Windisch, who dove in front of the net from the left side and skirted the ball around the goalie as he fell to the ground.
Drew's leading scorer of the day was junior
Craig Wilkie (two goals, two assists). He scored his first goal at 2:40 in the first when he threaded the ball through a couple Blue Jays and just around the goalie's stick. Wilkie would add his next three points in the fourth period, including another unassisted goal at 5:56 when he scooped up a highly-contested ball on the left side of the crease and fired a perfect bounce shot right past the goalie.
Sophomore
Brett Spafford and freshmen
Charlie Collins and
Homero Ortiz all scored two goals apiece as well.
Senior
Anthony Tufaro (19:41, two saves) and junior
Yoel Ovadya (40:19, seven saves) split goalkeeping duties for the Rangers.
The Rangers are back in action on Tuesday, when they host Manhattanville College in a non-conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
