MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's volleyball team closed out its inaugural season by taking on Elizabethtown College in Baldwin Gym on Saturday.
The Blue Jays earned a 3-0 win, prevailing by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-17.
The Rangers finish the year with a 9-16 record.
Sophomore
Omarf Ortega-Reyes led the way for the Rangers, finishing with 11 kills and two blocks (one solo), while freshman
Jacob Sledz notched six kills and six digs. Freshman
Huriel Perez distributed 17 assists.
In the opening set, Drew trailed just 12-10 before the Blue Jays (14-11) opened up a gap with a 7-1 run.
The Rangers jumped to a 6-2 lead in the second set and led 8-7 before Etown scored seven straight points to take control. Drew held an early lead in the final period, leading 4-2 before the visitors answered with a 12-5 run. The Rangers used a 3-0 spurt to draw to within two (14-12) and trailed just 21-17 before the Jays closed the match on a 4-0 run.
Under Interim Head Coach
Allison Regan, Drew finished the season with a winning record at home (5-3), highlighted by a 3-0 win over Mount Aloysius in its home debut on Feb. 11. Eight of the Rangers' victories were sweeps, and they won three matches in a row Feb. 22-26.
