BALTIMORE - Needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, the Drew University women's lacrosse team brought its A-game in a decisive 20-4 victory at Goucher College in Saturday's Landmark Conference match.
Now at 3-3 in the Landmark Conference and 10-5 overall, the Rangers occupy the fourth and final postseason spot. Meanwhile, the Gophers drop to 0-5 in the conference and 2-13 overall.
The star of today's game was sophomore
Lizzy Barrett who went a perfect 5-for-5 on shot attempts as she led all players with five goals. All of her tallies came in the first 20 minutes of the game, including a free-position goal at 10:57. She also recorded two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.
Others posting big performances included senior
Meliha Emini (two goals, one assist, four draw controls, three caused turnovers),
senior
Hailey Simmons (two goals, two assists), senior
Jenna Draney (two goals, five ground balls), and
sophomores
Ella Champigny (two goals, one assist) and
Emma DiPatri (three goals, two assists). In addition, senior
Kendall Hartt racked up nine draw controls.
Saturday also brought a couple of firsts, as sophomores
Jamie Smith and
Catherine DiPatri each scored the first goal of their collegiate careers. Smith broke through at 9:59 in the fourth period as she carried the ball around the back of the net fired a point-blank shot right past the goalie from the edge of the crease. Two minutes later, DiPatri had her pass from behind the goal tipped before careening into the back of the goalie's foot, where it bounced into the goal.
Overall, with a near constant attack, the Rangers ended up outshooting the Gophers 36-6 on the day.

Katiana Michalski split goalkeeping duties, with Horne making two saves and earning the win.
The Rangers play their regular-season finale next Saturday, when they host Susquehanna University in a crucial Landmark Conference tilt starting at 1 p.m.
