Susquehanna Takes Two From Baseball

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Drew University baseball team lost the first two games of its Landmark Conference series at Susquehanna University on Saturday.

The River Hawks won a rain-interrupted opener 7-1 before capturing the nightcap 10-4.

In the first game, Susquehanna (9-15, 4-3 LC) pushed across four runs over the first five innings versus starting pitcher Tim Jinks, who struck out five over five innings of work.

The Rangers scored their lone run in the seventh, when senior Shane Benson reached on a bunt single and eventually scored on an error. But the River Hawks put the game away with a three-run eighth.

Junior Nick Pellegrino tossed the final three innings for Drew.

In the second game, Drew opened up a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first, when junior Anthony Diaz led off with a single, was bunted to second by senior Cole Bosch, and scored on a groundout by junior K.J. Hallgren.

Susquehanna tied it in the bottom of the inning versus senior Teddy Hoxie before the Rangers went back in front in the second. Freshman Matt Myers doubled before scoring on a single from first-year Matt Gallaro.

Hoxie ended up pitching seven innings, yielding only single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings before leaving the game with his team trailing 4-2. He struck out three and walked only two while scattering seven hits.

The River Hawks would put the game away with a sixth-run eighth before Drew set the final score in the top of the ninth, when freshman Jake Bilheimer ripped his first career home run with a pinch-hit two-run shot.

The two sides conclude the series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game starting at noon.
