HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior
Olyvia Jackson made a career-high 13 saves, but the Drew University field hockey team came up on the short end of a 3-1 non-conference decision at Stevens University in its first road game of the season Wednesday evening.
It was the second career double-digit save performance from Jackson, whose previous career-best also came versus Stevens when she stopped 10 shots versus the Ducks a year ago.
Stevens (5-3) jumped to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first quarter. However, Jackson and the Rangers would shut out the hosts for over 40 minutes, blanking the Ducks in both the second and third quarters. Jackson was especially effective in the third quarter, when she denied Stevens on all seven of its shots on goal.
In the meantime, the Rangers (2-3) got on the scoreboard less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. Sophomore
Janelle Arch stripped the ball from a Stevens player and cross the ball to freshman
Emily Monaco at the top of the box. Monaco delivered a pass in front of the cage to sophomore
Tyler Olivio, who turned and fired in her second goal in as many games.
Jackson turned aside two more shots to keep the Rangers within a goal, but the Ducks punched in an insurance tally with just over six minutes remaining. Jackson made one final stop inside the final minute of the game.
Sophomore
Lauren Cagliostro led Drew with three shots, including one on goal.
Three different players scored a goal for Stevens while Emily Franco made four saves.
The Rangers play their Landmark Conference opener on Saturday, when they host Goucher College at 1 p.m.
