Drew Handles Goucher 4-1 In Landmark Opener

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew field hockey team opened Landmark Conference play with a solid 4-1 victory over visiting Goucher on Saturday.

The Rangers (3-3, 1-0) return to action on Thursday, hosting King's College at 1:00 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.

The field was tilted in Drew's favor in the opening quarter, as the hosts held a 12-0 advantage in shots. Two of those bids resulted in goals with Tyler Olivio striking first with 4:04 showing on the clock. She knocked in a short pass from Trisha Dominick for her third tally of the fall. Alexa Thomas made it 2-0 1:07 later on a nice deflection on a shot by Lauren Cagliostro.

The Rangers extended the margin to 3-0 midway through the second frame. Lauren Reduzzi pushed a pass ahead to Lloyd, who fired a shot into the cage from the left side.
After a scoreless third quarter, each team added a goal in the final 15 minutes. Thomas picked up her second score of the game from right in front of the cage after a feed from Dominick with 1:25 expired. The tally was her team-leading sixth of the year and her third two-goal performance.

The Gophers spoiled the shutout bid 1:39 later, as Zoe Milkes put a low shot inside the right post from the left side.

In goal for Drew, Olyvia Jackson earned the win by playing 45 minutes, while Bridget Kenny played the final quarter.

The Rangers held a wide 30-3 margin in shots and took 18 of the game's 19 penalty corners.
