Thrilling Rally Sends Field Hockey Past King’s

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Trisha Dominick scored the game-winning goal 31 seconds into overtime and the Drew University field hockey team posted a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind victory over King's College Thursday evening in Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (4-3) were nine seconds away from defeat when junior Maxine Lloyd forced OT, tipping in a blast from sophomore Lauren Cagliostro following a penalty corner.

After the teams dropped to a 7-on-7 setup in the extra session, sophomore Janelle Arch quickly came away with a loose ball and carried it downfield before the Rangers were awarded another corner. Dominick then accepted a sharp pass from Arch at the top of the circle, dribbled to her right, and rifled in a shot that deflected off a King's defender and into the cage for her first goal of the season and her second career game-winner.

Junior Olyvia Jackson turned aside six shots to earn the win for Drew, which won for the third time in the last four games. Ellie Glatz collected seven saves for King's (5-6).

The Monarchs took an early lead when Hannah Chacallo intercepted a pass deep in Ranger territory, settled the ball, and drilled it in from 10 yards out with 2:49 left in the first quarter.

Neither side scored in the second quarter and it was a 1-0 game at the half.

The Rangers turned up the heat in the third period, outshooting King's 4-0. Drew nearly tied it early in the quarter, when Glatz made a sprawling save on a shot from Dominick. Seconds later, Cagliostro smacked a shot off the post.

In a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the Rangers held a 4-3 edge in shots. Jackson made a pair of saves for Drew while Dominick also contributed defensively, tipping away a ball that deflected off Jackson's pads and was headed for the cage.

The Rangers finished with advantages in both shots (15-12) and corners (12-8).

Drew returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Catholic University in a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 1 p.m.
