Rangers Stopped by No. 20 Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team hit the road Wednesday night against 20th-ranked Elizabethtown College after a two game homestand this past week. The Rangers were unable to overcome a fast Etown start and were handed a 74-53 setback in Landmark Conference play.

With the loss, the Rangers fell to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in conference while the Blue Jays improved to 16-1 on the season and 6-1 in Landmark play.

Despite the loss, the Rangers had a balanced scoring attack paced by senior guard Joey Meyers, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds. Fellow backcourt mate Gwen Alberici added 11 points and five assists, while junior forward Gracie Hezel finished with 10 points and three boards.

Senior guard Kyra Mann scored the first bucket of the game for the Rangers on a pass from Alberici at the 3:12 mark of the first quarter, stopping an 11-0 Etown run. But the Blue Jays never trailed in this one after outscoring the Rangers 21-4 in the first quarter.

Drew pulled to within 10, however, after a strong 19-12 second quarter on 43.8% shooting that ended with Hezel finishing through contact to close out the half.

With the hosts holding a 33-23 lead, the teams traded back and forth baskets all throughout the third quarter, as the Rangers continued to battle back. Meyers began to heat up midway through the period, scoring six points in a three-minute span to keep her team within striking distance.

The Blue Jays pulled away in the fourth quarter, however, thanks in part to a strong showing from DaniRae Renno who finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Summer McNulty added 18 points while teammate Lindsay Boyd finished with 13 points.

The Rangers will return to action at home on Saturday, when they host Juniata College for a Landmark Conference matchup at 2 p.m.
