Field Hockey Edged By Moravian

MADISON, N.J. – Moravian University scored in the closing minutes of the third quarter, handing the Drew University field hockey team a 1-0 setback in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

Senior Olyvia Jackson made nine saves for the Rangers and stopped five shots in the fourth quarter, helping to keep her team within one.

Drew controlled the flow of the game early and outshot the Greyhounds 6-2 in the first quarter.

Moravian got untracked in second quarter, when it held an 8-2 shot advantage. But Jackson made three of her stops in the quarter while seniors Sheila Roth and Jackie Melone each made a defensive save and the two sides headed into the intermission still tied at 0-0.

The two sides nearly played to another scoreless quarter in the third period. But with 1:12 on the clock, Gia Ambrosino tipped in a shot on the left post with what turned out to be the game-winner.

The Greyhounds kept up the pressure in the final quarter, outshooting 9-1, but Jackson stood tall and ended up with her seventh game this season of posting at least nine saves.

Maia Machada turned aside five shots for Moravian.

The Rangers resume their Landmark Conference schedule on Saturday, when they visit Goucher College in a 1 p.m. start.
