Rangers Top Defending Landmark Champion Catholic in Season Opener

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won 10 of 16 events and knocked off defending Landmark Conference champion Catholic University by a score of 167-126 on Saturday in F.M. Kirby Pool.
 
Freshman Nicholas Heinio-Widell turned in a tremendous performance in his collegiate debut, winning four events, including individual wins in the 50-freestyle (21.54), 100-freestyle (47.29), and 200-IM (1:58.18). He also swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200-medley relay (1:34.97).
 
Senior Finn Armitt also had a big day, capturing two individual events as well as two relays. He won both the 100-butterfly (50.74) and 200-butterfly (1:55.98) while swimming the butterfly leg of the 200-medley relay and the leadoff leg of the winning 400-freestyle relay (3:13.12).
 
Junior Hayden Koh rounded out Drew's contingent of double-winners, touching first in both the 200-freestyle (1:45.99) and the 200-backstroke (1:56.86). He swam the leadoff backstroke leg of the 200-medley relay.
 
Freshman William Gregory contributed a win in the 500-freestyle (4:55.05) while sophomore Brendan Burkett anchored the 200-medley relay squad. Senior Luke Stevens and freshman Kyle Talerico swam the second and third legs of the 400-free relay.
 
Three Rangers added a pair of runner-up finishes each – Burkett in the 50-freestyle (25.34) and the 100-freestyle (49.98), sophomore Ricky Kilichowski in the 100-backstroke (56.58) and 200-backstroke (2:02.46), and junior Yan Zheng Lew in the 100-butterfly (52.54) and 200-IM (2:01.38). Gregory also took second in the 1,000-freestyle (10:06.75), as did Talerico in the 500-freestyle (4:57.06).
 
Drew is back home next Saturday, when it takes on Montclair State University in a dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
