MADISON, N.J. – Senior
Olyvia Jackson made 10 saves, but the University of Scranton handed the Drew University field hockey team a 3-0 setback in a Landmark Conference tilt Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.
The conference-leading Royals (13-2, 7-0 LC) scored a goal in each of the first three quarters. However, Jackson kept the Rangers within striking distance courtesy of her sixth double-digit save performance of the season.
Elle Collins scored twice for Scranton, which finished with a 19-3 shot advantage.
In a defensive first quarter, the two sides combined for only three shots. But Collins scored on a tip-in with 1:23 on the clock and led 1-0 after 15 minutes of play.
Scranton outshot the Rangers 4-0 in the second quarter, but Jackson made her first three saves and nearly shut out the visitors in the period. However, Julia Downing scored with 44 seconds on the clock and Scranton led 2-0 at the intermission.
The Royals scored the final goal midway through the third quarter, when Collins tipped in a well-struck ball high into the cage. Scranton held a 7-1 shot advantage in the stanza, but Jackson turned aside five shots.
Jackson recorded her final two saves in a scoreless fourth quarter.
Gianna Travia did not make a save but earned the shutout for the Royals.
Drew plays its home finale on Saturday, when it takes on Landmark Conference newcomer Lycoming College on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
