Women’s Hoops Earns Landmark Win at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. – Senior forward Jamie Struble posted her first career double-double on 23 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Drew University women's basketball team to a 60-48 Landmark Conference victory at Goucher College on Saturday.

Struble, who shot 8-for-13 from the field and 7-for-11 at the foul line, netted her career-high in scoring while tying her career-best in rebounding.

Sophomore guard Maddy Morgan added 13 points and seven rebounds for Drew (2-3, 1-1 LC) while senior forward Gracie Hezel contributed six points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Brianna Johnson notched 16 points and eight rebounds for Goucher (0-7, 0-2 LC).

It was a tight game in the early going, and the Gophers led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Rangers went on to outscore Goucher 15-11 in the second stanza to assume a 29-27 lead at the half.

Drew pushed its lead to seven late in the third quarter, only to see Goucher score the next four points and the Rangers led 40-35 heading into the final period.

The Rangers opened the fourth quarter on a big 7-0 run to open up their first double-digit lead of the game. Struble kicked off the surge with a layup before sophomore guard Maddie Beyer came up with a steal that led to a fastbreak bucket from Morgan, who was fouled on the shot. She completed the old-fashioned 3-point play before Struble capped the outburst with a layup, making it 47-35 with 8:06 remaining.

Goucher was unable to get any closer the rest of the contest, and the Rangers led by as much as 18 with 2:07 to go.

Drew returns home on Wednesday, when it takes on fourth-ranked Scranton at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference tilt.
