Turco’s Career Night Pushes Rangers to 8-0

SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior guard Andrew Turco scored a career-high 25 points and the Rangers continued their best start in team history with a 78-61 Landmark Conference victory at the University of Scranton on Wednesday evening.

Drew, which broke away with a big run to start the second half, stayed perfect at 8-0 and 3-0 in conference play.

Turco shot 7-for-12 from 3-point range, setting a career-high for 3s made in a game.

Sophomore forward David Musial posted his fourth double-double over the last five games for the Rangers, adding 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with four assists and four steals. Junior guard Josh Kline contributed 13 points off the bench while junior forward Peso Crump totaled 12 points and eight rebounds.

Teddy Spratt paced the Royals (1-7, 0-3 LC) with 17 points.

The Rangers jumped out to an early 18-10 lead, but Scranton chipped away and cut the gap to one with 7:28 left. A 10-1 run pushed Drew's lead back to 10; however, the Royals closed the half on a 7-0 run to pull to within 36-33 at the break.

Turco scored 12 of his points in the opening half, when he shot 4-for-5 from 3-point range.

Some torrid 3-point shooting helped the Rangers erupt for a decisive 17-0 run to start the second half. Crump and David Musial hit back-to-back triples to make it a nine-point game before Turco drained consecutive treys as the lead ballooned to 49-33. Kline followed up with a bucket before Musial scored three more points as Drew's advantage swelled to 20 (53-33).

Scranton would not go away, however, and whittled the deficit to 11 with 5:46 remaining. However, that's when senior guard James Anderson drilled a 3-pointer, Kline spilt a pair of free throws, and Anderson knocked down a pair at the charity stripe, capping a 6-0 run to give the Rangers an insurmountable 72-55 lead with less than five minutes left.

Drew returns home on Saturday, when it takes on Lycoming College at 2 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
