Sledz, Rangers Ace Purchase

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Jacob Sledz served up a school-record nine aces and the Drew University men's volleyball team swept Purchase College 3-0 Monday evening in Baldwin Gym.
 
The Rangers (5-4) won 25-20, 25-2, 25-5.
 
Sledz broke the previous record of seven aces set by junior Omarf Ortega-Reyes back on Jan. 26. He also posted five kills and six digs.
 
Ortega-Reyes finished the night with nine kills, eight assists, and five digs while sophomore Ephraim Smith contributed nine kills and two blocks. Sophomore C.J. Addeo added five kills while classmate Huriel Perez distributed 18 assists. Sophomore Bryan Do recorded nine digs.
 
The Panthers (2-5) led 4-1 in the opening set before the Rangers used a 13-6 run to go up 14-10. Drew pushed its lead to 21-14 and led by at least four the rest of the way.
 
The Rangers were in control the rest of the way. With Perez serving, Drew opened the second set on a 9-0 run, and Sledz would make 12 consecutive serves as the hosts pushed their lead to 21-1. Sledz fired in four of his aces during the stretch.
 
Drew started the final set on a 7-0 surge, with Perez serving on the last six points. Sledz would make 11 straight serves – four of which resulted in an ace – as the Rangers went up 18-1 en route to their fourth sweep of the season.
 
The Rangers continue their five-match homestand on Thursday, when they take on Saint Elizabeth University starting at 7 p.m.
