MADISON, N.J. – Elizabethtown got off to a quick start and the 20th-ranked Blue Jays topped the Rangers 87-65 in a Landmark Conference tilt Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
Freshman guard
Madelyn Morgan led the way for the Rangers (16-8, 6-7 LC), scoring a season-high 18 points. Senior guards
Gwen Alberici and
Joey Meyers each added 14 points for Drew, with Alberici also handing out eight assists.
Elizabethtown (20-3, 10-3 LC) shot 57.7% from the field and was paced by Summer McNulty, who scored 31 points 12-of-17 shooting. DaniRae Renno added 17 points and six boards to lead the Blue Jays.
After a back and forth first three minutes the score was tied 7-7 after a bucket from Morgan in the paint. That's when Elizabethtown ended the first quarter on a 17-7 run to take a 24-14 lead.
Drew came out firing in the second quarter, however, shooting an incredible 90% (9-for-10) from the field. Meyers scored six of her points in the quarter, but Etown matched the scoring to build a 45-35 halftime advantage.
Elizabethtown shot 61.5% (8-for-13) in the third quarter to extend its lead to 63-49, and the Jays would lead by at least 13 the rest of te way.
The Rangers conclude the regular season on Saturday, when they visit Catholic University at 2 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
